LAS VEGAS — TUUCI received the top design award for its Ocean Master MAX cantilever parasol during the recently completed Hospitality Design Expo + Conference in Las Vegas -- standing out from more than 900 exhibitors during a crowded trade show attended by more than 7,000 people.

For the past 16 years, the International Interior Design Association, in cooperation with HD Expo, has presented design excellence awards in several product categories, recognizing the most innovative offerings during the hospitality industry's largest annual trade show. The Ocean Master MAX Cantilever was selected as the leader in the category of individual furnishings in the case goods and free-standing furniture segment.

"The gratifying aspect of this award is the fact that it's presented by design professionals who truly appreciate the commitment required to create products that are as beautiful as they are effective in meeting customer needs," said Dougan Clarke, chief shade architect for Miami-based TUUCI. "Our team is focused intensely on service to professional interior designers and the hospitality industry, which makes this award during HD Expo a validation of our strategic direction as an organization."

As is true of the entire TUUCI product line, the Ocean Master MAX Cantilever merges art and engineering within a highly functional shade structure. A polished and anodized marine-grade canopy structure cantilevers from a sturdy oval-shaped mast, easily closing over tables and chairs. With a patent pending 4:1 tandem-retrieving crank system, the Ocean Master MAX Cantilever provides up to 144 square feet of uninterrupted shade.

Available in a Classic canopy style, the Cantilever is crowned with TUUCI's "Ocean-Sail" finial design. It offers graceful and generously proportioned shade to any sun drenched environment, timelessly designed for all enclaves, traditional and contemporary.

The International Interior Design Association consists of more than 12,000 members in 50 countries.

Interior Design | Creating mood lighting

http://uktv.co.uk/home/item/aid/632251

Transform the atmosphere of your home with lighting that comes from a variety of sources. Fit dimmer switches wherever possible for a versatile lighting system, and use a good mixture of lower wattage ambient lights and higher wattage task lights to adapt your lighting to suit your mood. Here are some more ideas for the rooms around your home.

Living room lighting
The primary purpose of the lounge is relaxation and socialising, so avoid having too much glare or your eyes won't get a chance to rest. You should also try use warm lighting, with a yellow rather than blue glow. You will need some task lighting near seating to enable you to read comfortably. A floor or table lamp positioned next to a sofa or armchair will create an inviting pool of light.

Lamps with opaque shades channel the light down to create contrast, whereas those with translucent shades diffuse the light in a gentler way. Accent lighting can help you to show off special ornaments, a painting or an alcove filled with eye-catching objects - simply direct a spotlight at a feature you want to highlight. Torchiers are a dramatic way to draw attention to a sculpture or architectural feature - just place a your floorstanding lights in corners or by a wall, with the light directed upwards towards the ceiling.

Kitchen lighting
You need bright lighting to be able to cook safely and easily, but to create a softer and more welcoming atmosphere, you could use low wattage track lights or recessed spotlights. Where you need more intense light for cooking, use high wattage strip lights on the undersides of wall-mounted cabinets to illuminate the worksurface. If your kitchen features a central island or breakfast bar, install a bright light overhead as you may want to use this area to read the morning papers, open your mail or catch up on paperwork.

You can also make a decorative feature of this overhead lighting that compliments the rest of the kitchen. Depending on your kitchen style, you could opt for a colourful glass pendant lamp or a contemporary chrome spotlight arrangement. Highlight favourite pieces of crockery or glassware with accent lighting and, if you have glass cabinets, consider lighting them from the inside for effect.

Dining room lighting
A dining room should be bright enough so that you can see what you are eating, but you may also want softer lighting for a romantic meal, so a dimmer switch is ideal. A central light over the dining table will set the scene and create a focal point. You could opt for a pendant light or several if you have a particularly long table. Alternatively, a decorative chandelier, either contemporary or traditional, will create an interesting feature.

Track lighting or recessed spot lights are another option as they will allow you to space out the lights evenly and ensure that neither end of the table is left in shadow. Candles can also be used, both along the table and in wall mounted holders, to create a welcoming atmosphere for dinner parties.

Bedroom lighting
A reading light on either side of the bed will mean you do not have to disturb your partner. Wall sconces on either side of a mirror will create a shadow-free light for putting on make-up. In a cramped bedroom, mirrors will bounce the light around making it appear larger, brighter and more open. If you are lucky enough to have a very large bedroom, use wall sconces to make the room feel cosier. If you have a dramatic bed you could highlight this with accent lighting behind the bedhead. A striking or elaborate central light is also a good way to set off your bedroom scheme, and it is the room in the house where you have the most freedom to express your personality, so be adventurous.

http://freshome.com/2010/06/17/25-room-design-ideas-for-teenage-girls/

Looking for fresh interior design ideas for pretentious and stylish teenage girls? In this post we will try to give a hand. For today we’ve gathered together a set of 25 pictures which represent young girls’ rooms. We tried to do a various selection: we went with some serious and sober interiors, but we also gave a shot to the familiar and very popular pink, orange and red arrangements. All of the rooms are practical, featuring working spaces, small bookcases or shelving systems for books and Cds and beautiful cabinets especially designed for teenage girls. Last but not least, we consider the mirror to be a mandatory item in any girl’s bedroom, so in some of the photos below you will notice they have a special status. Even though not all the room design ideas have a particular theme, the decorating elements are very well interconnected creating interiors that are both functional and aesthetic. Have a look!

How to Renovate a House

http://homerenovations.about.com/od/planningtorenovate/a/artremodelproce.htm

The process of renovation can be mind-bending. Here is one suggested whole house renovation timeline.

1. Design and Planning

Whether it's a sketch on a cocktail napkin or full-blown architectural plans, some type of planning and design always comes first.

  • Ensure that you have funding for your renovation.
  • Draw up a simple "yes/no" list of do-it-yourself projects and projects you want professionals to do.
  • Look for contractors and subcontractors for those jobs you do not want to do yourself.
  • Apply for permits.

2. Roof, Foundation, Siding, Windows

Protect your future renovation work by making certain the house won't collapse on you (foundation, major structural problems) and that it will remain dry (roof, siding, windows).

  • Secure the foundation.
  • Make major structural repairs to areas such as weakened walls, joists, and carrying beams.
  • Repair or replace roof.
  • Replace seriously damaged windows that may threaten future remodeling work. If not seriously damaged, leave it for later in the process.
  • If the siding is so damaged that it will allow water infiltration, repair or replace the siding. If not seriously damaged, leave it for later in the process.

3. Demolition

Depending on the scale of your renovations and the condition of the house, demolition might be the first step.

  • Rent a large container for waste.
  • Carefully demolish all or some of the areas of the house that will be renovated. Demolish as much as possible if you will not be living in the house.
  • Exercise caution when demolishing surfaces coated with lead-based paint.

4. Structural Carpentry

At this time, call in the carpenters for major carpentry projects. Things like:

  • Moving walls.
  • Constructing new walls.
  • Significantly enlarging window openings.
  • Adding beams to support a greater weight upstairs.
  • Punching in new doors (or removing existing doors).
  • Adding new construction windows.

5. HVAC Ductwork, Electrical, and Plumbing

With the walls and ceiling open, it's time for the HVAC company to install ductwork for central heating and air conditioning. Also with the walls accessible, run new electrical and plumbing systems. Electrical and plumbing inspectors will visit at this time, too.

6. Insulation

Last thing to do with the walls open: install fiberglass batt insulation in the walls and attic. Insulation goes fast, so give your drywaller a call and let him know he's next up.

7. Drywall

  • A second inspection from the electrical inspector (and perhaps the plumbing inspector) will give you the go-ahead to close up the walls.
  • Drywallers hang sheets of drywall, apply drywall compound, and let the compound dry. After drying, they sand it smooth. Sometimes, they will repeat the process until they achieve a seamless surface.

8. Flooring

Installing the flooring later in the renovation process saves your flooring surface from significant damage.

9. Windows

Install new-construction or replacement windows.

10. Fine Carpentry

Here's where you introduce carpentry that doesn't involve structural issues. Install baseboards, molding, trim around windows and doors, built-in elements (bookcases, breakfast nooks, etc.).

11. Interior Painting, Wallpaper, and Other Surface Finishes

Painting interior walls, hanging wallpaper, painting molding and trim, staining and sealing trim: all of these detail-oriented surface finishes should be the last items you do indoors.

12. Siding, Gutters

With the house mostly finished, it's safe to put on siding. You don't want to do this earlier (unless absolutely necessary) because doors and windows may get punched out, ruining the siding.

13. Major Auxiliary Building

Last, do major auxiliary building projects like:

  • Additions
  • Sunrooms
  • Swimming pools

Large building projects like additions should come last. My view is that you do this last so you don't deplete all of your money and energy on projects not related to renovating the house itself. However, an alternate view is that you may want to build an addition very early in the process so that you don't ruin any work you do in the main part of the house.

Single House Interior Design

Single House Interior Design

Residence Interior Design

Design Date: 2012-03-01
Design Project: Residence Interior Design > Single House

A single-family detached home, also called a single-detached dwelling or separate house is a free-standing residential building. It is defined in opposition to a multi-family dwelling.

This house is wonderful with two composite boxes in simple-gray of custom-made stone. The large windows set on the side with the view to the fields and forest. While the side facing to the neighbors, the windows are designed in very small and low. The interiors boast the open plan with the sliding doors and curtains for the simplicity.

http://173ng.com/thread-362599-1-1.html

A Tiny Apartment Transforms into 24 Rooms

In Hong Kong, because of the space, apartments are small and expensive. Gary Chang, an architect, decided to design a 344 sq. ft. apartment to be able to change into 24 different designs, all by just sliding panels and walls. He calls this the "Domestic Transformer."

http://www.baby-kingdom.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1119609
